Teshmont played a key role as a subconsultant to General Electric Grid Solutions (GE), who was retained by Manitoba Hydro to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the Adelaide Distribution 66/12 kV Station.
Since 1911, Manitoba Hydro’s King Street Substation has been providing energy to downtown Winnipeg. Increasing demand for power caused by new infrastructure and investment in the core area, combined with the age of the King Street Substation, precipitated the need for Manitoba Hydro to invest in the construction of a new substation to provide service to downtown Winnipeg.
The Adelaide Station has been designed with the highest standards, utilizing modern compact indoor gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and advanced station protection and control systems, all housed within a limited footprint and built to blend into the surrounding environment. The station has also been designed to provide for easy expansion when load in the area grows.
Teshmont was selected as a subconsultant by GE because of our strong knowledge and experience in the area of substation protection and control and substation automation systems. Our role included design and testing of advanced IEC 61850 compliant station protection and control system systems, design of the AC and DC station service systems, station grounding studies, and assistance with project management.
By combining engineering expertise, advanced technologies and careful project management techniques, the Adelaide Distribution Substation has been designed to serve power effortlessly and reliably throughout downtown Winnipeg for decades to come.
