Today's ever changing electrical power transmission industry requires that you maximize the life of your investments. Most existing AC substations can be cost effectively upgraded to provide improvements in system capability and reliability while extending the life of the station. Replacement of breakers to increase short circuit interrupting capability, upgrading of station bus work and support structures to increase the current capacity and the introduction of modern control and protection systems to improve reliability, are all examples of cost effective changes that can be made to extend the life of older substations.
