Bosnia Herzegovina Electric Power Rehabilitation Project III

International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Washington

Bosnia Herzegovina

An estimated seventy percent of the electrical generating capacity was damaged or destroyed in the war, including transmission facilities and lines (up to 400 kV), transformer stations, civil works, telecommunications, and maintenance equipment.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), recognizing that a country’s ability to resume production and promote economic growth is heavily dependant on its energy supply, took steps to rehabilitate Bosnia Herzegovina’s electric power system.

Teshmont was selected to define and prioritize the rehabilitation needs for the three utilities in the country (EPBiH, EPHZHB and EPRS), with particular emphasis on the high voltage transmission system and distribution facilities.

Teshmont was responsible for leading the work and providing technical expertise in the areas of system studies, transmission lines and substations. The services
provided include:

  • Reviewing all technical matters relating to the feasibility study with IBRD

  • Studies of the electrical network of the country, that involved the facilities of the three utilities together with the system connections to national and international connections which form part of the future 400 kV Mediterranean network

  • Review of studies, cost estimates and schedules for the rehabilitation work on behalf of the IBRD

  • Assisting with the identification of local capabilities for supply and
    installation

  • Estimating the priority for refurbishment of equipment, being purchased with loan funds provided through the IBRD by various donors

  • Assessing rehabilitation needs of substations and transmission and distribution facilities, including site visits to the appropriate locations where necessary, to enable the three utilities to operate as an integrated system
