15 years of transmission line design experience at 138 kV and above. Transmission line civil and structural design and foundation design experience with a consultant or electrical utility. Construction supervision experience would be considered an asset.

Position Responsibilities:
Preparation of proposals including development of methodology, staffing requirements and labor and expense cost estimates
Transmission line feasibility studies including preliminary route selection, preliminary environment loadings, feasibility level estimates, recommendation of conductors and structure types, conceptual design criteria
Detailed route selection, working with environmental and geotechnical associates
Research of environmental conditions and selection of environment loadings,
Line design optimization including structures, conductors and hardware
Detailed design of transmission line structures and foundations
Preparation of design reports and drawings
Preparation of specifications and contract documents including contracts with sub-consultants for QA and QC activities
Supervision of intermediate and junior staff on projects
Project planning and control of staff hours and project budgets using a recognized project management package such as Microsoft Project.
Provide guidance, advice and mentorship to less senior engineers on their project work

Proven abilities in the design of one or more of the following:
substation layouts and single line diagrams
understanding of the design of primary substation equipement (power transformers, reactors, capacitors, circuit breakers, instrument transformers, etc.)
substation automation systems (control, protection and instrumentations)
grounding and lightning protection systems
AC and DC auxiliary systems
busbar systems
Demonstrated familiarity with codes and standards including CSA, ANSI, IEEE, and IEC

Proven written and verbal English communication skills.
Extensive knowledge and detailed understanding of PSS/E power systems analysis software.
Strong background in static and dynamic modelling of power systems components in PSS/E including HVDC, VSC, Static Var Compensators, STATCOM and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitors
PSS/E model development and IPLAN and/or Python programming is an asset.
Experience on projects for international lending agencies such as World Bank IBRD and ADB would be an asset.
Spoken and written technical communication skills in other languages are considered an asset.

Develop performance specifications for AC and DC transmission systems.
Take full control of technical projects, including planning and control of staff hours and project budgets using a recognized project management package such as Microsoft Project.
Participate in IEEE, CIGRE, IEC or other international organizations.
