Teshmont has been retained as Owner's Engineer for the Bipole III HVDC Converter Stations project. The project is being built to improve the overall system reliability and dependability of Manitoba Hydro's network. The transmission project will connect abundant sources of hydro-electric power in Northern Manitoba with population centres in Central Canada and the Midwestern United States.
This project includes the Keewatinohk converter station, ac switchyard, and electrode located in Northern Manitoba, and the Riel converter station, synchronous compensator facility (if needed), and electrode located in Southern Manitoba. The +/-500 kV system will be rated between 2000 MW and 2500 MW. Either Line Commutated Converter (LCC) or Voltage Source Converter (VSC) valve technology may be used.
